Game on! I picked up this gorgeous yarn at MDSW with my Sockapalooooza recipient in mind, and I'm so glad I did! It's Shelridge Farms fingering weight, and it's just wonderful... this textural pattern looks great because the stitch definition is so fine.
The pattern was not as easy to come by. My LYS is under new management, so I went to check things out and congratulate the new owner. While I was there, I browsed the sock books, and found this lovely pattern in Charlene Schurch's book, More Sensational Knitted Socks! I love this book. Instead of doing the thinking for you, the book gives options. LOTS of options. There are explanations and comparisons of different cast-ons, different heel constructions, and toe options. There are photos of different stitch patterns classified by stitch count. So you get to pick your favorite elements and put them all together to make a custom pair of socks. It's like Mr. Potato Head for knitters! For this particular pair of socks, I've used a twisted rib cuff, with a crosshatch lace pattern. I'm planning on a garter-edged flap heel, and the toe will either be a star toe or a rounded toe. We'll see how I feel when we get there. Surprisingly enough, this is pretty much the extent of my knitting this week! My mind has been elsewhere (more on that at a later date), but this sock has fueled my creative juices and if I keep going at this pace, I may finish up the first sock at knitting group on Tuesday! It's going to be hard to wait until August to mail these babies, I'm not even halfway through, and I love them already. I hope my pal does too!
